...Slippery Travel Late This Afternoon and Early Evening...
Spotty light rain across western and central Massachusetts this
morning will become steadier and more widespread early this
afternoon and will then change to snow and sleet between 2 pm and
4 pm. With temperatures above freezing roads will initially be
However after 3 pm temperatures will begin to fall below freezing
across the high terrain of western-central Massachusetts,
essentially west of I495. This includes the cities and towns of
Charlemont, Greenfield, Orange, Barre, Fitchburg, Chesterfield,
Blandford, Amherst, Northampton, Milford, Worcester, and Ayer.
Snow and sleet will then begin to accumulate on paved surfaces
especially secondary roads and untreated surfaces becoming snow
covered with accumulations ranging from a coating to two inches.
This will result in slippery travel. Conditions improve early this
evening as precipitation ends between 5 pm and 8 pm. However with
temperatures remaining below freezing overnight any standing water
or slushy will freeze.
As for the Greater Hartford, Providence to Boston corridor, rain
early this afternoon will briefly change to a period of snow and
sleet before ending between 5 pm to 8 pm from west to east.
However with temperatures remaining above freezing throughout the
day and early evening, roadways will remain just wet.
